Oprah Moment --
The first time I wore a skirt was when I graduated from college six years ago. I had it made in Iloilo and I even chose the cloth for it. I was so excited to have it and couldn't wait for an occasion to wear it.
The occasion came and I wore my skirt, feeling so wonderful in something that I had helped make.
And then I'm told that it didn't look good on me -- I didn't have the figure for it.
The next time I decided to wear a skirt was a year later. I was enjoying my job (and the salary) in Xavier and felt it was time to make a transition from ? (I wasn't a kid, but I didn't think I was an adult yet) to adulthood.
One of the ways I made this transition was in the clothes that I wore.
This was my bible.
I also had help from my friend, C (super-bonding summer!).
That summer, we would spend hours going around malls and department stores. She helped me build the foundation of my current wardrobe.
She had this philosophy, which I follow to this date:
If you feel good on the inside, then you will look good on the outside.
If you look good on the outside, then you will feel good on the inside.
For the most part, I get by pretty well, without experiencing episodes of insecurity about my body. But there are those times when I absolutely hate myself.
And then, I got an Oprah moment (a moment of enlightenment; a you-go-girl! moment)
I am lucky to live in a time when women are slowly becoming more comfortable about their bodies. Walking around campus, I love seeing the many shapes of women dressed so prettily. They aren't limited by their size -- they manage to look good.
I like it that women are showing their curves.

A Visit! --
This whole week, I've been stressed out checking papers and seeing my students for consultation. I finally got sick checking papers (literally! A fever!) last Sunday.
And today, just when everything was turning bleak and I still had a stack of papers to check, I got treated to a wonderful visit from E!.
And he came bearing gifts pa -- a copy of Tuck Everlasting. ^_^
That was a bright spot in my day. (Thanks, E. Coffee some time soon? Hopefully G can join us. *ahem* pokes G ^_^)
If I could tell the world just one thing, it would be that we're all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful and useless in times like these
I will not be made useless, I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith for light does the darkness most fear

Oh, how the gods must be laughing right now --
So it's the last week of classes and it's a very hectic week for me --
Consultations for final drafts, oral presentations to be graded, first drafts to be returned, etc. etc. --
And here I am with a fever and painful joints.
And just last week, I was telling all of my students to "hang in there" and to "mind their healths" because they wouldn't want to be sick at this crucial point in the semester.
Hardeharhar =P

Sunday --
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave
- Maroon 5, "Sunday Morning"
My J and I had such grand plans for Sunday. We were going to Galleria to watch a movie and then go around to check out the new stuff. Lunch was going to be at Mangan (which we both love --)
But I woke up feeling really weird -- my bones were hurting and I was clammy.
He brought over some orange juice and we spent the day at the house na lang.
Though it wasn't what we originally planned to do, I'd like to think we still had a grand time -- watching all those shows on Lifestyle and Disney --

Yesterday --
On my way to the store from the dept, I saw this man standing on the sidewalk in front of Red Ribbon. He was waiting for a cab. He had a cake box with a birthday candle taped on the top of the box. 7 -- it was probably for his son or daughter who was turning 7 that day.
I realized that I wanted that.
I want to see myself, some time in the future, standing on the sidewalk with a cake box waiting to go home.
My cubicle-mate, after seeing a picture of me and my J (our friend, C took the picture at the wedding reception we all attended last Saturday), said "three."
Apparently, that's how many children he sees me and my J having.
"Introduce them to me when they're older."
This made me smile.

Things I want to do during the sem break --
With the papers piling up, two things keep me sane: my J and the thought that sem break is in two weeks.
I was supposed to go home to Iloilo, but the enrollment sked of Ateneo wouldn't permit me to stay long.
So I'm spending my sem break here --
Plans:
1. Clean and re-organize my closet. The clothes I wear when I teach are completely different from my usual clothes. I really need to fix up my closet so I won't have trouble getting ready for work na.
2. Go on a day trip out of town. My J gets Saturdays and Sundays free -- which are my days off also. The road trip last Saturday with friends was so much fun. Maybe we could plan another one for October. ^_^
3. Learn how to drive. I think 26 is a good age to learn. ^_____^
4. Update my closet. This will happen after I finish sorting through my clothes.
... but first, I have to check papers.

Bookbinding Workshop --
Natalie Uhing, a bookbinder with 10 years of experience, will be holding a bookbinding workshop toteach those seriously interested in learning how tomake a codex-bound book (that is the traditional bookwith sewn pages and rigid covers). She and her partner, Kristian Larsen, have been livingin El Nido, Palawan for the past 5 years, and the couple started handbinding one-of-a-kind journals and sketchbooks of recycled wood, fabric and leather, to support their simple lifestyle there.
Last year the couple decided that the time hadcome to move on, and are set to sail for Australia by the first week of December, 2004. The workshop stems from a desire to pass the craft of bookbinding on to those who take a serious interest in learning this fine craft.
The workshop will be held from Oct. 1 to 3, that's Fri. - Sun., from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. at 37 Hill Drive, Beverly Hills, Antipolo, Rizal. The fee is P 5,000.00, (includes lunch and a light merienda) The workshop will cover the traditional codex format of bookbinding. It's one of the strongest bindings, and with small changes/variations (which Uhing will demonstrate) the format can be made with wooden or other rigid covers. The aim in teaching this workshop is to ensure that students will be able to continue making these books in a home environment with ordinary tools and do not require special bindery equipment. Uhing will also give a list of all her own suppliers, a bibliography of bookbinding references, a list of websites for bookbinding.
The class is limited to 12 students, on a first come, first served basis. For questions and to register, please e-mail Natalie Uhing at mobile : 0916 491 9078 or telephone: 658 4763.

I think I want to get one of the wood-bound ones. Very pretty. ^_^

Nature --
A few days ago, while walking the path from Gate 2 to the English Department, I came across a felled tree --
I thought it would make an interesting subject for a photograph --
It was a good thing that I decided to bring my supersampler with me (with some leftover Ilford 1600 film inside) --
I stood there and started taking pictures of it --
Of the exposed roots --
Of the smaller plants still growing on the base --
Of the intricate pattern created by broken branches, twigs and leaves --
There was such beauty in its destruction.
There I was, with my Lomo Supersampler -- switching from .2 seconds to 2 seconds, creating movement where there was none.
A short distance away, was another fallen tree, much like the first one --
But this one had a white band of cloth around its middle, as though someone had tended to it.
I found an angle where I could take a shot with both trees in the picture --
Later that day, I saw a butterfly feasting on the carcass of a dead frog.

Weekend Adventure! --
My J has already written about how we plan to make the trip to Cavite for our friend's wedding in his blog -- we're lucky that our friends D and C agreed to accompany (and drive) us there. So, it's a mini-road trip.
Our first time "out of town" and it's our 6th monthsary pa.
We plan to visit Festival Mall and Alabang Town Center and perhaps eat at the original branch of Mushroom Burger in Tagaytay.
If we had more money, we would probably make the trip to Sonya's Garden -- but we don't. ^_^
It promises to be an interesting adventure.
And, yes, I will take lots of pictures along the way.

Countdown to Sem Break --
27 September to 1 October - classes
4 October to 8 October - classes
11 October to 16 October - Exam Week = no more classes
Two weeks left!
And I am drowning in papers to check! >_<>Aeon Books was in Ateneo --
And they were parked at the entrance of our building. We were so scared to go out because we knew we would end up finding something there that we liked and spent money for it.
I ended up getting a HC collection of the Brownings' poems (Robert and Elizabeth) and a collection of contemporary American poetry.
They are selling some of their literary books at a reduced price. I got those two books for about PhP580. (Which is a bargain, considering it's Aeon)

Pretty pictures! --
Ah, what a great weekend for my J and I -- we have two nice new pictures to add to our collection of "us.jpgs" ^_^
The first one is a picture my mom took of us on the overpass -- yes, the overpass. It was after we went to lunch at Panciteria Lido with my parents. My mom still have some film in her camera and had been bugging us about taking pictures.
My J and I couldn't refuse and am glad we didn't. We look sooooo cute in the picture --
... too bad I can't scan it yet.
Here's the other one --
Last Saturday, I was interviewed for a newspaper article last Saturday and my friend Jing (sorry -- had to name you because people might confuse you for my J ^_^) took this picture of my and my J.
Hay naku, we look so serious kuno -- examine the picture and discover that I am actually reading the comics section (feeling ko, I was *ahem* browsing the horoscopes pa nga eh ^_^)
But it's a nice pic -- thanks, Jing ^_^
* * *
Yes, another entry about food --
My parents are in town because my cousin (from my mother's side) got married. My parents brought batchoy from Iloilo.
It was such a thrill to have my J taste real batchoy for the first time. (And am glad he likes it)
And I'm really enjoying the Jollibee value meal for Chickenjoy and Palabok --
And their Mais Con Yelo ice craze.
~sigh~ So much food! >_<

What's your name? --
According to this, this is my Hawaiian name: Kahalikine
And this is my J's: Iohana

Waaaah! Soooo lovely! --
This is my bro's office's website --
My bro got so tired of us asking him whether it will rain tomorrow or not that he gave us this site --
It has a link to a place that shows satellite pictures of the climate and weather in the Philippines and her neighbors --
It's like that aquarium channel, but better ^_^ -- check it out, it's so lovely! ^^
* * *
And today's reflection --
You are always fatter than someone else and thinner than someone else.
Am ashamed to admit it, but I succumbed to it -- to that annoying part of me that looked at other people and compared my body to theirs.
My J always tells me he loves me as I am and I've always had a fairly healthy opinion of myself -- but there are these moments, when I just can't help but think that I could be thinner (= a better version of myself) --
~sigh~
My cubicle-mate actually asked me once if I was anorexic because he has never seen me eat --
I've realized that it's when I'm most aware of my weight that I gain the weight and, when I don't think about it at all, that I lose weight.
I really should just decide to be happy the way I am. ^_^
(I am, btw -- happy, that is. I love my life -- I love that I have my J and my sibs and my friends and my work and my friends at work ^_^)

Bleh! part 2 --
It is so hot!
Dammit!
Was planning to go to church at 10 am -- but it was so damned hot.
Went to the 11 am mass instead -- bad idea.
Couldn't concentrate on the mass because of the heat.
* * *
I want this --
At the dept, we have one PC with a working printer.
There are times when I think of an activity on the fly and I need to type it up and print it out -- it's really hard to wait for that one PC to be available.
It is at those times that I wish I had a laptop and a printer with me.
This is the laptop I want -- the Dell Inspiron 700m

Milestones --
1. Today, one of my favorite couples is celebrating their second anniv -- Happy 2 to Rikrik and Tintin
2. This is also a milestone month for me and my J -- on the 25th, we would have been together for half a year now. ^_^
^_^ <-- one more because the second bit of news makes me really, really happy
^_^ <-- and one more just because.

Mushroom Burgers! --
My J is hooked! (and, by default, so am I! ^_^)
We decided to try it out last Saturday and made the trip to West Avenue. I think the lady at the counter was surprised when I ordered *ahem* 10 burgers (5 mushroom burgers and 5 mushroom sandwiches)
Ah, and they have yummy sago gulaman and black gulaman drinks there.
Yum!
(What makes these experiences extra special is that I get to share these with my J ^_^)

o_O --
So my J and I watch Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle last night and this left us with an insane craving for burgers -- at almost 9pm.
Not just any burger, mind you -- we wanted White Castle burgers. (Oh yes, we are so susceptible to advertising ^_^)
~sigh~
Since there are no White Castle burgers in the Philippines, we discussed alternatives. My J and I were ready to go to Mcdonald's already (because we also love the fries there) but we ended up at Wendy's.
Earlier that day, my J and I passed by a Mushroom Burger outlet in Quezon City --
This Saturday, my J and I are going on our own adventure to get mushroom burgers -- he is Kumar and I am Harold and that Mushroom Burger branch somewhere in Quezon City is our White Castle.
Ah, I have so much fun with my J. ^_^
* * *
OMG!
Late-breaking news! Discovered that White Castle also sell their burgers frozen and you can just reheat it.
~Oh, the possibilities...~

I think your name is magical. --
- Jim Carrey's character, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I like how my J says my name (well, my nickname) -- and I've wanted to write about this for quite some time now, but could never really find the words.
I still can't. ^_^
I gained this appreciation for names after reading Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series:
"It is no secret [spoke Ged]. All power is one in source and end, I think. Years and distances, stars and candles, water and wind and wizardry, the craft in a man's hand and the wisdom in a tree's root: they all arise together. My name and yours, and the true name of the sun, or a spring of water, or an unborn child, all are syllables of the great word that is very slowly spoken by the shining of the stars. There is no other power, no other name."
(from Wizard of Earthsea)

The need to be brave --
I went to the bank today and decided to stop by Starbuck's for coffee. A few minutes after I went in, one of the MMDA metro aides came in asking for some water.
I've always admired these metro aides and I actually had secret (well, not-so secret anymore) aspirations of becoming one because I want to have a hand in cleaning up the city. I promised myself that I would show them my appreciation whenever I can.
Today, the Fates gave me a chance.
She was there and I was there. I ordered a slice of banana bread with the purpose of giving it to her.
But I didn't.
I was too worried about what others might say.
I was worried about how she would react.
I didn't know what to say to her.
In the end, she had left and I still had the slice of banana bread with me.
I tried to look for her outside, but she was gone na.
On my way back to Ateneo, I tried to console myself -- thinking "it's the thought that counts" -- but I knew that wasn't the case. The thought does count, but it's action that matters.
And I wasn't able to follow through with that today.
I will be more brave next time.

In class today --
So I've been discussing logical fallacies with my En11 class for the past two weeks now. I wasn't looking forward to this section of the semester because I am not very good with this sort of thinking.
Last Friday, I had a really bad session with my En11 -- people were falling asleep and I could feel their interest slowly slipping from me. I knew I had to stop the lecture because I was wasting my time and theirs. I sat down and opened up the forum for questions and concerns.
One of my students asked me what was the point of learning about fallacies. She had looked back at everything she had written for herself and she saw everything as a fallacy. She didn't understand why we were discussing fallacies.
I tried to answer it, but I couldn't. I apologized to the class and told them that I wasn't confident that I could teach them effectively.
After class, one student came up to me and said that I didn't suck because she was learning something.
That made me feel better -- temporarily. It was still at the back of my head -- I had admitted defeat without even trying. I felt bad because I had let my kids down and I had let myself down.
I realized that I had committed a fallacy on myself -- I had began the undertaking thinking that I wouldn't be good at it. I had poisoned my own well.
During the weekend, I came up with a battle plan. I was going to win my students back and give them a reason to appreciate logical fallacies.
I was nervous going to class today --
I started by talking about how I had committed a fallacy and I asked them to identify which fallacy it was. They got it right -- poisoning the well.
I them proceeded with another introduction to the lesson --
I began by saying --
"Without critical thinking, the world would still be flat and the earth would still be the center of the universe. We would all still live a feudal society because no one would dare to ask whether there was something better than that form of governance."
I knew then I had gotten their attention back.
I ended the introduction with this --
"If you have to ask me why this lecture is important, then you aren't thinking critically. I am here to facilitate this lecture. It is up to you to figure out how you're going to apply this."
The activity went on without a hitch and everyone participated and tried their best to answer the questions. Issues were raised and we all tried to clarify things for each other.
In the end, this turned out to be the best lesson I had ever taught.
When the bell rang, I thanked the class for the wonderful discussion and I was so pleased to see the spark (of interest) again.

Oh, and it's 115 days to Christmas.
Galing how time flies. ^_^
... and, yes, I've started saving.
... and, yes, I have my Christmas list ready.
... and, yes, I am really this anal.
It has always been a tradition for me to spend my semestral break shopping for Christmas presents. I find that, after sem break, I usually don't have the time to attend to this -- there are too many things happening in late October, November and early December.
Oh, and, yes -- I already know what to ask for (from my sibs) for Christmas. ^_^

She says:

And now it's gone.

He says:
Waaaaah!!
It took like a good hour to write that!! >_<
(my fault--funky mouse has a back button on the side!)
She says:
... but it was a good experience for the both of us. I'm sorry world, you don't get to read it. ^_^

Rain, Rain --
Woke up, heard the rain and decided to call Ateneo to find out if we had classes --
At 730am, the announcement was that only classes in the GS were suspended. I thought this was odd because my bro texted me from Katipunan and informed me that the area was already flooded (knee high).
I tried calling again at around 8-something and this time, they suspended the classes for the HS.
At 9-something, I was getting ready to leave when I decided to call again. Still no word on whether classes in the college were cancelled.
Stepping out of our building, I saw that our street was flooded (and I live in a high part of town) -- so I decided to call Ateneo again (through my cellphone) -- this time (it was already 930), they had finally decided to cancel classes for the college.
We still had the drop my youngest bro off in Katipunan because he had stuff to do. Like the last time it rained hard, the area near National Bookstore was flooded. I felt sorry for the students huddled together under one umbrella, trying to keep dry and worrying about how they were going to get home.
We really need to improve this system of cancelling classes. Resources are being wasted because of indecision and hesitation.

Hmmm --
Watched Conan last Thursday and the Fab 5 (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) were the guests.
I thought it was strange/sad when Conan asked them if the rumor was true, that one of them was straight.
* * *
Silly me --
I don't mean to make favorites, but I find that I enjoy my En10 class more. I just have a better rapport with the people there and we appreciate each other's silliness.
Some of the things we've done:
- For the discussion on Adverbs of Place, the activity I gave them was treasure hunting a la Battleship. I gave each one a map with grids and told them to "hide" a treasure. After that, I asked them to try to figure out where there classmates might have hidden their treasures by writing down sentences using adverbs of place.
At the start of the activity, I had to put everything into context. I told them we were modern-day pirates looking for treasure. Just to get them into the spirit of things, I asked them to go "Arrrr!" and do the hand thing.
And we did. (Go "Arrr! and do the hand thing.) ^_^
- Since this is a basic class, we really have to teach the basics of grammar and writing. One of our key lessons is on being specific. (With our thesis statements; with our nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) So I gave them a battlecry: "Specify!" -- I do that fist-in-the-air action pa talaga. After a while, it caught on and even my kids (yes, I call them my kids) started shouting "Specify!" and do the hand action. ^_^
Ah, but this worked! You should see how well my students performed in the departmental midterms! ^_^ (but I think they could have done better)
Our latest silliness is:
I noticed that the class would be wearing similar colors and so, for today's discussion, I asked them to sit according to color.
And we did.
Funniest/cutest thing in the world seeing a row of blues and then a row of whites and then black, etc.

Ah, the prospect of the weekend! --
My horoscope:
Daily Couples:
Dress up and take your fabulous self out on the town, holding your equally fabulous beloved tightly by the hand. Forget work stress and enjoy yourselves.
... and since my J and I share the same birthday, this is also his horoscope.
No, wait -- since we are a couple, it is also his horoscope.
Lol! (Sorry, I'm just being silly and shallow tonight o_O)

Some songs --
I like Third Eye Blind and I didn't know it. We have a copy of their first two albums and I really love this song from their latest album:
Blinded (When I See You)
Just an old friend coming over now to visit you and
That’s what I’ve become
I let myself in though I know I’m not supposed to but
I never know when I’m done
And I see you fogging up the mirror
Vapor round your body glistens in the shower
And I want to stay right here and go down on you for an hour
Or stay, and let the day just fade away
In wild dedication, take the moment of hope
And let it run, and never look back at all the damage we have done now
To each other
Cause when I see you, it’s like I’m starring down the sun
And I’m blinded
There’s nothing left to do
Still I see you
I never believed that things they happen for a reason and
They never go as planned
I wanted to thank you for a vision that was lost that you returned but
You’re passed do you understand
Now her appetite is blown, little else is known
Except she a little angry, grabs a towel and looks away
And heat fades with the day
And I fall down on what to say,
Oh something clean let me be clever
Hey oh well whatever
But that’s not what I mean
When where we’ve been has left us burned
Still I won’t turn now from a fight you know I’ll never win
So when I see you, you know all the things I’ve done
Well I’m blinded
Like I’m staring down the sun
When I see you
It’s like I’m staring down the sun
Time passes and it tells us what we’re left with
We become the things we do
Me I’m a fool, spent from defiance, yeah you got me but
I didn’t give up on you
Icarus is not a tee shirt or a swan song, no
He is born again and it’s not easy being me
But I can’t promise I will mend or bend
When you believe that we are fixed now from our birth
And I’ve just fallen back to earth
Still you know I’ll try again
Cause I believe that we are lucky
We are golden we’re stolen manners
In the days when we were one
Chorus
So when I see you, despite all that we’ve become
I’m still blinded
But I’m still staring down the sun
When I see you
I’m blinded

An invitation to an adventure --
Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song
Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies
I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows
knee-high
So won't you try to come
Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me
- Norah Jones, Come Away With Me

Today is QC day and we decided to take the day off from the store, which means I am free the whole day! ^_^

Happy, happy! --
My friend A (and his girlfriend G) were at the store this afternoon and my sister and I had such a wonderful time talking to them. Out of the blue, A said "You're looking happier these days." I tried to downplay it and said that it's my kids who are the source of this glow.
But seriously --
I have noticed that I am much happier these days. When I see myself in the mirror, I could see the glow and I recognize this glow -- I've seen it a couple of times before:
When my cousin J and her hubby S first got together, my cousin was so radiant and happy. (She still has this glow, btw -- ^_^)
When my friend C got together with J, I also noticed this same glow.
And now I have it.
And it is all because of my J.

Bookfair! --
My J and I dragged our friend C on an adventure in Manila. We went to the Bookfair last Sunday afternoon. Like the true OC/anal people that we are, my J and I had a map of the metro with us. (Yes, unbelievers -- my J was the one who asked me to bring it pa)
We were so turista with our map and camera -- hahahaha! See here -- lol!
I wanted to get a copy of The Story of O -- I wasn't sure if I was going to read it, but I wanted it for the sake of having a copy of it. (It's rare to see it on shelf in the bookstores). I decided not to get it because it's a long way to the next sweldo and there's so much more that I want to get.
My J went crazy! 7 books total! I think his best find was the copy of Michael Chabon's Summerland for PhP250 from the ADB booth.

Primitive? Primordial? Soup! Soup! --
We discussed Denotation and Connotation in my En10 class today. We came across one item in the activity that had to do with choosing between primitive and primordial. The kids had difficulty differentiating between the two and couldn't figure out which was appropriate for the sentence.
Since we do student-centered learning in AdMU, I couldn't just whip out the dictionary and provide them with the definition of each one. We had to go through an exercise to unlock the meaning of the two words.
So, on the board, I made a chart --
primitive primordial
= old = old
= prime (1st) = prime (1st)
= man, artifacts = ? (they had never encountered this word before) so I provided soup/ooze
= primate (sounds like)
= animal
We were able to get to the meaning of primitive by connecting old, with 1st and then man. We figured out that it was someone who wasn't so civilized and was barbaric.
We tried to do the same with primordial by connecting 1st with soup. So I asked my class, "What do you think was the first soup?" (I know, strange question to ask ^_^)
The class was so quiet. (I'm known to be quite encouraging and open with my students' answers and they never hesitate to share their answers. Until kanina...) One finally ventured a guess -- "Ma'am, onion soup?"
Ngek! hehehehe -- ^_^
But soon after, someone guessed that it had something to do with our origin. Whew!
And then I had to add that the gene pool really isn't a pool. ^^
I had such a wonderful time with my class! When it was time to go, I thanked the class for their participation and told them that I'm expecting the same attentiveness and enthusiasm on Wednesday. You could really see them spark when I recognized their work for the day. Ah, I love my kids! (And to think I was so harassed this morning with unfinished papers! I still have 30++ to check by Wednesday. erg! >_<)

Spring Rolls! --
One of the things my J and I (and my two younger bros) have in common is our love for spring rolls. Wherever we go, we always order that place's spring rolls to find out if it's good.
So far, we love the spring rolls in the following places:
- North Park
- Pho Hoa
- World Topps (my J and I had a discussion pa about whether we enjoyed the fresh or fried more)
- Hue
Oh, and I am really loving World Topps these days. So affordable and filling -- and the variety! (hehehe -- my J and I had a feast yesterday of noodles, buffalo wings and spring rolls and all for less than PhP300!)
... what makes the whole experience wonderful for me is that I'm with my J. (yay!)
* * *
Bookfair! --
We're planning to go this Sunday and I'm a bit worried because it's too far. My youngest bro went there last Thursday and said that it's difficult to find a cab in that area --
Oh well, my J and I plan a Manila adventure! (yay! ulit) -- hehehe (unless it rains, and then we're done for. >_<)
* * *
Have I written about Potato Chips yet? --
I bought a bag of this when I was in Hongkong and we all loved it! Kaka-adik yung kettle chip texture!
Going around Fresh recently, we saw that they had Kettle Chips talaga and we bought a bag. It's okay and they have very interesting flavors. (But all I want is lightly salted or BBQ! >_<)
* * *
It's August already --
The -ber months are on their way! (Starting to save money for Christmas na ^_^)

Basho said to avoid adjectives of scale
in order to love the world more and desire it less.
<--- I first encountered this line in one of Robert Hass's poems (forgot the title). It just made me go "wow!"
* * *
Almost Happy 1 year to me ^^ --
I checked my first blog (the one for my RO character) and realized that I started that blog last August 16, 2003. I would have been blogging (and playing RO) for a year now. Ah, how time flies talaga. ^^
* * *
Houses, houses! --
Dragged my J along to look at Montgomery Place (the Ayala project along E. Rodriguez). They were so pretty and the community is fun. ^^

wow! --
my friend c was asking me about nigella lawson so i went online to check for some info --
guess when her birthday is --
it's the same day as me and my J!!! and she's 18 years older than we are. ^^
oh my golly! today she made this incredibly simple yet oh-so tempting sandwich -- it's pan-fried white bread with mozarella.
will try to make it tomorrow. ^^
* * *
A find! --
My J and I went to Booksale Katipunan to browse through the new arrivals. I was so happy to find a battered (but cheap, cheap, cheap) copy of Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence, which I've been wanting to read for quite some time now.
I got my copy for PhP50 -- yay! *clap clap*
I'm really enjoying the book (and part of the enjoyment is being able to read it out loud with my J -- I let him read the French stuff ^^)
* * *
And tomorrow's horoscope --
Daily Couples:
Work is the last thing you feel like doing -- so skip it and play hooky. Pack a picnic, take your sweetie to the park or beach and start counting the ways you love each other.
... to clarify: I don't believe in this stuff and neither does my J. (But we always have a laugh about our horoscope because we share the same b-day ^^)
* * *
Abangan! --
Coming soon: A joint-blog entry from us. This is inspired by my friends C and J who have a blog together.
It's going to be a fun way for us to bond and try to see if we share the same sentiments about the same experience. ^^
Will be a curious thing --
* * *
A belated must watch! --
Last Wednesday, I watched Bowling for Columbine with my En10 class last Wednesday. What a documentary! I was fighting back the tears (kakahiya because a lot of freshment were there)
I didn't get to finish watching it, though -- good thing my J has a copy (and, as backup, our friend P also has a copy ^^)
* * *
Reading material for today --
Was Introduction to Psychology 11th Edition (the Atkinson one) -- curious explanations about love and relationships
Will blog about that some other time, though ^^

Capricorn:
Daily Couples:
When was the last time you wrote your doll face a love letter? If the answer is 'never,' then remedy that situation posthaste. Email works just as well; it's the written word that counts.
* * *
I really enjoy watching As Told By Ginger on Nickelodeon. I found a website that has the episode summaries and info about the show.
All this time it was you
I didn't think that it could be true
You were right there from the start
And what might be the strangest part
Is while I sure enjoyed the view
Of seeing everything brand new
It's still you
All this time I was home
I didn't know just how far I'd roam
Winter brings all this snow
Blinding, it covers everything you know
But when the sun comes shining through
And the sky returns to blue
I will rush to take my cue and find you.
(from As Told by Ginger)

Hmmm --
Your Juno is in Capricorn
Entering into a relationship with a Juno in Capricorn is like watching good cheese age -- the longer it sits, the better it gets. You are at your best in long-term relationships, the ephemeral flirtations and assignations of others are not your cup of tea at all. Instead, you prefer a relationship which is deeper, more vital, more fulfilling in every way. Take care in choosing your partner; do not confuse your love of lasting relationships with a desire to be in a relationship with just anyone. Dispassionately evaluate the similarities and differences between your values and those of your partner's and work out any conflicts in the beginning so the stage is set for further growth. That shouldn't be too difficult for you as your logic will always rule over your emotions. In your long-term relationships you'll want to be in charge; you may want to choose a partner who is willing to follow your lead. You think you're right most of the time and in fact you usually are, but don't use your power and conviction to hurt someone who relies on you to shore up their self-image.
And
CAPRICORN
This week's scenario is highlighted by your ability to multi task. Plan carefully and avoid obstacles that others have put in your way. You may tend to overspend if you go shopping. Don't let friends or relatives interfere in your love relationship. Make up your own mind. Get out and interact with others. Dig deep and discover the truth. You're going to have to rely on your imagination to help you find a good solution. It's time to make your move. You may like the people you are working for but money talks. Don't take a risk, gamble or spend money you can't afford to part with. Little annoyances will cause outbursts of temper that could easily lead to estrangement. Curl up with a good book and refuse to let anyone trigger your anger. Hobbies will be a satisfying outlet. You've taken on too much, and now you're going to have to become a juggler to meet your deadlines.

Empty Seat --
Just finished reading Craig Thompson's Carnet de Voyage -- a three-month chronicle of his travels through France and Morocco -- (it's a lovely, lovely read!!!)
There is this scene in the graphic novel where Craig is sitting alone in his hotel room and the caption is "Two hotel beds to myself"
I know what that feels like --
When I went to the UK four years ago, I was alone --
it was so strange to be sitting in an airplane and not have anyone to talk to or lean on (to sleep)
it felt weird to see all these pairs and groups going around and I was always walking by myself
the worst is going back to the hotel room, seeing the two beds and knowing that no one will sleep on the other bed
~sigh~
Resil Mojares once wrote that all traveling is solitary -- when I read that, it made sense and I didn't question it.
(But I would still rather be solitary with someone else than be solitary on my own.) ^_^
* * *
Sweet like candy to my soul --
Spent the early part of last night watching Dave Matthews videos with my J -- we got the DVD as a present for my bro who is a huge DMB fan.
It's a DVD that contains all the DMB videos from the earliest to The Space Between.
When the video for Crash into Me came on (it's my favorite DMB song), I got goosebumps all over --
I really like it that I have my J to share all these experiences with. ^_^
* * *
Tempus fugit!
August is a few days away and it is the last month before the -ber season. Where does the time go? ^_^
My bro has a clever way of keeping track of the days -- he does it by the holiday food. August is Mooncake festival (well, actually it's in September, but we start buying and eating mooncake as early as August 15). October is Halloween so it's candy corn season and then December is the big Christmas feast (fruitcake -- yes, my brother actually loves the stuff). January, February and March are birthday months in my family so it's cake, cake and cake. April is Easter so it's the chocolates and Easter candies.
Etc. ^_^

A new development --
I haven't talked about this, but this is something that I've recently discovered about myself --
I like Nutella.
Ask my J and he will tell you how I always wonder what something would taste like with Nutella -- donuts, cookies, brownies, ice cream, cake, chocolate bars, etc.
... I don't know why I'm blogging about this.
Oh well. ^_^
* * *
Link goodness! --
My friend C has this link in his LJ -- it's Chuck Palahniuk's writing workshop --
* * *
Because of the new Lomo --
I remember that I still have a roll of Ilford 1600 (which Fuji now sells ^_^ -- they have up to 3600, but it's B&W) in my supersampler -- will probably bring it around and take pictures again.
The problem with the higher ISOs is that I don't think our film developing places here can manage them -- I get the sense that the photographs could be processed better --
(But I will still have fun with this roll of film ^_^)

Hmmm -- A new monitor or this?
My monitor is dead -- well, it has been for a while. It was part of my old system but, since I didn't have enough money to get a monitor back when I replaced my old PC, I still use it.
The colors are all wrong and it isn't very clear anymore -- my J complains about it and tells me that I will ruin my eyes even further because of it.
I was planning to get a new monitor with this week's sweldo -- but look at the new lomo --
It looks so cool! I think I want it. ^_^

"Rain, rain, go away" --
It was raining so hard yesterday! We got stranded in Katipunan for 4 hours!
I felt bad for my EN10 class because I dismissed them at 4:10 and, by then,
the streets were already flooded. I couldn't even get across to National Bookstore.
I sought refuge in my brother's office -- but my shoes had suffered by then. ~sigh~
My bro and I decide to trek out again at around 5. OMG, you should have seen the
people! Everyone was walking -- it looked like a scene from The Day After Tomorrow.
We checked Gate 2 to see if it was passable (and it wasn't), so we walked to Gate 3
and was able to cross over from there.
We knew we were going to stay stuck in the area for quite some time, so we decided to
get a pizza and have dinner while waiting for the flood to dissipate.
D of Octopus was nice enough to give me a pair of slippers from his store and he
joined us for dinner. Our friend M called and asked to seek refuge in the store --
he had been on the road since 4 that day (and, when he called, it was already 7!)
We finally decided to bite the bullet and try to go home at 8. (It was the right
decision -- the route we chose was relatively clear and we were able to get home in
40 minutes)
I was sooo tired last night!
(I wanted to blog about this last night but I was so tired na!)

I discovered this poet through a friend of a friend's blog -- Louise Gluck
Check our her poems!

"He was the first part of all my joy..." --
I was browsing through the V:tM Book of Nod and I came across the Toreador's words to his childer --
In quiet, you will know beauty
In beauty, you will know truth
In truth, you will know love
In love, you will know quiet
... ganda no?
I've always considered myself Toreador -- they're the clan I have the most fun playing (and the most success as well ^^)
These lines are so beautiful -- I just wanted to share them. ^^
* * *
Midterms!
Wow -- can't believe I have to go through that again --
But this time, it's different -- I am teacher now. ^^
I can sense that my students are apprehensive about it, but I am trying to reassure them by reminding them that with midterms comes the knowledge that sembreak is just two months away! ^^
* * *
Looking forward to watching Imelda this weekend with my J ^^

Oh, and Ice Monster is now open in Katipunan -- it's beside Aeon Books

Watched King Arthur --
^_^
I would agree with most people that King Arthur wasn't the "wow!" movie it set itself up to be --
My J and I were supposed to watched Kill Bill volume 2 this weekend, but when we checked the movie skeds, it seems Powerplant replaced Kill Bill with Mean Girls -- we decided to go to Theater Mall and watch King Arthur instead.
(But we had fun at the hardware store later that day ^^)

Was listening to the CD If I were a Carpenter in the store --
Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin' true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
- "Top of the World", Carpenters (version I listened to is performed by Shonen Knife)
(... I really, really love my J.) ^_^
* * *
Am in the store right now -- I'm glad it's the weekend and I get to spend time with my sibs and my J
-- things are getting hectic with my sibs but am glad I still get the
chance to sit down and catch up with what's happening to them.
* * *
New place!
There's a new donut place that opened along Katipunan -- it's called Cello's Doughnuts and Dips -- my J and I tried the C's and dip (Toblerone) and I thought it was okay --
The good thing about them -- and it was my youngest bro that pointed this
out to me, is that they're open at 7am -- imagine waking up and getting
warm, freshly-baked donuts -- yum!

Seen on someone's t-shirt --
Live to the point of tears
... wow, di ba?
* * *
I really like this image from Spooner by Ted Dawson. ^^
This comic strip series is something me and my J enjoy reading -- discovered it in one of this year's Free Comic Book Day comics.
* * *
Got my first paycheck today -- yay! ^_^
* * *
This is mine to remember --
(line from Annie Lennox's "A Thousand Beautiful Things" -- thanks C)
This is what I like about us --
We would be sitting quietly, lost in our own thoughts and then, one would ask the other "What are you thinking?" and the other would answer...
... and it always ends up that we would be thinking the same thing.
It happened again this afternoon and my J asked me if he should still be surprised -- and I smiled and asked him "What do you think?"
Before dinner, we were just lazing about with a bag of chips (I got it this weekend -- yes, my J and I love our potato chips) while watching the shows on ETC --
After dinner, we watched Will and Grace with my bro --
And he calls after he gets to work to tell me that he had fun today ... and I told him "I did, too."
^_^

Synchronicity! --
If anyone asks you
how the perfect satisfaction
of all our sexual wanting
will look, lift your face
and say,
Like this.
When someone mentions the gracefulness
of the nightsky, climb up on the roof
and dance and say,
Like this.
If anyone wants to know what "spirit" is,
or what "God’s fragrance" means,
lean your head toward him or her.
Keep your face there close.
Like this.
... (it continues)
- "Like This" by Rumi
So I was chatting with my friend C and he was telling me how he loves to dance and twirl around -- I told him it reminded me of the dervishes of Persia. I tried to remember the name of the Persian poet who was also a dervish --
Rumi --
I searched for poems online and found this one, which I thought C would like because it was intense -- I gave him the link and copy+pasted the first part of the poem on our chat log --
It seems he's been searching for this poem since he started with Quill -- he never knew the poet who wrote it, but he tried to remember the poem --
And then we found it tonight -- yay!
It always pleases me when things work out and everything falls into place. ^_^

Let's do the math --
In 1978, there were 4,151,846,000++ people in the world.
There are currently 6,440,982,750++ people in the world.
The Philippines has a population of 82,000,000++ people.
Every second five people are born and two people die, a net gain of three people.
Based on this, in a group of 23 people, at least two have the same birthday.
n choose p = n! / p!(n-p)!
<-- this is just part of the calculation ^^ (and the number is in the billions)
* * *
^_^ --
Chat log with P:
P: malapitin ka sa rare permutations no? I mean, meeting up with someone who was born on the very same day...and actually getting together with that person.
Me: oh my! yeah! i'm having someone calculate the odds for me -- i'm trying to figure out a bit of it myself
P: the odds, man. just imagine. hehe
Me: ^_^ -- am fate-alistic eh --
P: i guess, God doesn't throw dice.
When P typed that line, it made me smile. ^^

Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
Don't you know
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight
- Jesus Christ Superstar
* * *
Free Comic Book Day --
As always, it was fun -- it's always a nice feeling to be giving away things for free (and I like seeing how people's faces light up when you give them something extra ^^)
Thanks to G and C for helping out during the day -- owe you guys. ^^
* * *
Uncharted Territory --
I've ventured into territory that I've only heard of before -- now that I'm in it, I'm not quite sure what to make of it.
All of it is new to me -- these sensations and thoughts and I'm operating on blind faith and instinct.
I'm probably reacting to it this way because it's unknown to me -- but, deep down, I know that everything's alright and everything's fine. ^^

This is what I like about my sibs --
My bro is back from his one-month fellowship in New York -- he's suffering jetlag so he was awake when I woke up this morning --
HE asked me what was new and I told him about the new CCG we (people at the store) are all playing now -- the Marvel VS CCG. He listened as I was telling him how we got into the game and how we managed to get cards really cheap.
When he finally spoke, all he said was "Teach me how to play it."
^_^
* * *
FCBD! <--- exclaimed in the same tone as "TGIF!"
Today is Free Comic Book Day -- as is our usual practice, we will be giving away comic books depending on the number of stamps you have accumulated in the past month.
Fun fun fun! I'm excited ^_^
* * *
Three months into this --
And I find that I absolutely adore my J.

Lol! Bear with me on this one --
On the cab ride home, this was playing on the radio (and it seems my J and I both like this song pala)
It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live
If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
- Your Song by Elton John
... and, yes, we started singing it ^_^
* * *
Games! Games!
This is the new game we're (me, my J and youngest bro) playing. It's so hard to find booster packs for this game. We finally found some kanina when we had our expedition through Galleria and had a fun booster draft game in my house.
I have a nice Sentinels deck. Yay! ^_^
And check this out! My youngest bro discovered this game and is now slightly addicted to it. (I be a happy pirate -- arrrrr! ^_^)
* * *
A funny story --
My niece got baptized last Saturday afternoon at Mary the Queen and I was one of her ninangs (was touched by this gesture ^_^)
So it was the part where the ninang is supposed to place the white cloth over the baby -- it was a solemn moment and everyone was quiet in the baptistry --
Until my niece wrinkled her little nose and sneezed at me --
Yes, she sneezed at me.
Ah, but she was so cute when she did it! (Babies will get away with everything talaga) >_<

Coming up for air --
Whew! When I was given my teaching load, I thought it would be easy to manage -- 9 units per week = 9 hours, but now I find myself bringing work home and going to school even on my free days just to read and catch up on the lessons.
I'm enjoying myself though -- it is wonderful being back in the classroom and in front of a class. ^_^
And if anyone's interested -- here. ^_^ But you can't post there -- it's just for me and my students.

Your Superhero Identity For Today Is:
Name: Citronella
Secret Identity: K*** ^_^
Special Power: Somatic Stick
Transportation: Wonder Horse
Weapon: Ultra Lasso
Costume: Golden Bikini
Sidekick: Pollonius
Nemesis: Harold the Nasty
Tragic Flaw: Clumsiness
Favorite Food: Split Pea Soup
Take the test!
* * *
And the winner is --
In the recent issue of Guidon, they featured the results of a survey on course prestige, which they conducted during the summer --
1. BM-H
2. ME
3. ECO-H
27. ENGLIT
31. CW
32. HIS
33. HUM
36. DS
37. IS
... oh yes, there are only 37 courses in the Ateneo and we (me and youngest bro are IS majors) end up on the bottom of the list.
~sigh~
Am not sure what I want to say about this --
I'm sad that people don't realize how wonderful the course is (but then, this is a subjective opinion so ...)
I'm sad that people think we have it easy -- (True story: I was on my way to Music Appreciation class at the Art Gallery and I bumped into this acquaintance who was in BM-H. She asked me where I was headed and I told her which class -- to which she replies, in a very condescending tone, "buti ka pa, ang dali-dali ng subjects mo")
~sigh~
...IS majors are perhaps the happiest people on campus, thesis-blues notwithstanding. They get themselves involved in subjects they sincerely wish to take, and are definitely not forced to do anything they don't like. Happy people doing what they like best.

~sigh~

Ah, the weekend --
So ends my first week as an instructor of Freshman English --
I was so tired I fell asleep at 6-ish. My muscles (I found out I have muscles din pala -- hehehehe) were sore from all the standing and walking around (3 hours!) and my throat hurt like hell (had to drink Lo Han Kou to soothe it)
But it's the weekend! Yay!
* * *
I'm enjoying myself -- it looks like my classes are having fun naman -- I usually get lost in the lecture that I don't realize what time it is.
I gave them their first quiz of the semester -- hehehehe (talk about memories)
* * *
I finished reading Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days -- and I borrowed my J's copy of The Acts of Kind Arthur and His Noble Knights by Steinbeck.
So many good books; so little time (and so little money -- ^_^)

Found inscribed on a copy of Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club --
Annie,
You've been my luck.
You are my joy.
Adam
Let's not let anything negative come between us.
There are few days left.
... my J and I were browsing through the books at Aeon Books and I found this copy of Joy Luck Club -- it had a pretty cover so I took a look at it. I found these words written on the inside cover --
... and I wanted to get that copy of the book because of the inscription.
But I didn't because I didn't have enough money.
* * *
New resto --
We tried the new resto in Greenhills Shopping Center yesterday -- Oyster Boy. The food was amazing! We had grilled oysters with cheese and garlic (yum!), a seafood rice, sinuglaw (scallops and liempo) and sisig -- OMG -- the sisig was so good!
And the prices were not bad -- we ordered enough for 4 people and the average cost of a dish is PhP150.
And Italianni's is opening in Greenhills -- yay! ^_^
* * *
New games --
My J and I decided to try out the new Marvel VS CCG -- got a starter and two boosters and learned how to play it yesterday afternoon.
It's interesting, but it lacks the social aspect of VtES (which I love) --
But I want more boosters! >_< (probably at the end of the month when I get money again ^_^)
We also got a copy of You Don't Know Jack XL -- I like this game. (Am looking forward to playing it with my J ^_^)

On the first day of classes --

I had a wonderful day and I can't wait to meet my classes again on Wednesday ^_^

I won't go,
I won't sleep,
I can't breathe,
until you're resting here with me
I won't leave,
I can't hide,
I cannot be,
until you're resting here with me

Watched The Today Show on ETC yesterday morning and they were talking about the love letters Ronald Reagan wrote to his wife Nancy -- some were read and I found myself teary-eyed just listening to them.
Found this online:
You know I love the ranch but these last two days made it plain I only love it when you are there. Come to think of it that's true of every place & every time. When you aren't there I'm no place, just lost in time & space.
I more than love you, I'm not whole without you. You are life itself to me. When you are gone I'm waiting for you to return so I can start living again.
Happy Anniversary & thank you for 31 wonderful years.
I love you

How I spent my Saturday --
Store was dead because it was a holiday so we decided to close early. Then it started to rain really hard (and that ruined our plans for late lunch).
Watched My Tutor Friend (Korean movie) with bro and my J -- and we all just died laughing.
Spent the rest of the afternoon watching television until it was time for Nigella Bites on Lifestyle. My J and I prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ate them as we watched Nigella cook and eat. Yum! After that, we switched to ETC because it was time to watch Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
And today --
My bro and I are going to Glorietta to try out Breadtalk (apparently, my bro loves this place and would eat there often when he was taking his MA in Singapore) --
I'm looking forward to doing some clothes shopping in Glorietta -- haven't really checked out the stores there lately.
And am taking my bro to T Salon & Emporium (which, I discovered from yesterday's episode of QE, is a franchise) --
* * *
Oh yes, school starts tomorrow. ^_^

Ah, the wonderful world of blogging --
My cousin informed me yesterday that she finally opened a blog -- yay! My bro is using a blog to chronicle his adventures in New York while he undergoes a month-long fellowship there. Another friend, E.T. (I don't know why, but we always have to refer to him using his full name -- ^_^) succumbed and made two blogs (one for him and one for his very cute daughter)
I've listed all of them in my blogstop list -- up to the curious to figure out which is which ^_^
* * *
Things to do before Monday --
1. Create course syllabi for En10 and En11
2. Photocopy course syllabi for classes
3. Get En11 module from English Dept -- erg! (this isn't ready yet ... and I have 4 days left)
4. Read through En10 module -- help!
5. Read through En11 module -- help!
6. Think of nice first-day-of-school outfit -- yay! ^_^
... am thinking of opening a blog for my two classes. what do you guys think? Most teachers opt for a yahoogroups and I always dislike how that floods my mailboxes. A blog seems easier to access and easier to communicate through --
The downside is having to maintain 3 blogs (the ones for my classes would be updated once a week)
Thoughts please? ^_^
* * *
The Corrs' new album is amazing ^_^ -- we've been playing it in the store at least once every day.
My friend B's book is out -- Wala Lang is available at the UP Press (it will soon be available in local bookstores). (Congrats, B!)

^_^ --
It's nice to be back home. (Spent the past few evenings in Katipunan because I had seminars in Ateneo)
Managed to read through most of the blogs on my blog list -- I hated not being able to go online to check my mail or read through people's blogs.
Turns out my youngest bro also had an adventure at UNO mart (Korean grocery along Annapolis), which I missed. ~sigh~
* * *
Attended CDy's art exhibit --
EYES WIDE OPEN
@ UFO
85 Araulllo St.,
Addition Hills, San Juan
dragged my J along and we really liked this heart-shaped mirror that was hanging on one of the walls. hahahaha!
(oh, i have so much fun with my J ^_^)
* * *
Can't believe school starts on Monday!
Am excited to meet my classes and am looking forward to teaching again --
but there's soooo much material to read through before Monday! >_<
Oh well ...
* * *
And I really love my Holga --
It takes such pretty pictures ^_^

Interesting morning --
So we managed to infect ourselves with the worm/netsky virus and spent the morning cleaning up our systems --
Word of advice: Don't open attachment files ... ever.

Registration yesterday --
~Haaaaaay~
So I line up at the registrar's office in Bellarmine to get my reg form. The regcom member never mentioned that we needed an advisement slip in order to get our reg forms. Was there for about 20 minutes before being informed by the people handing out reg forms that I needed an advisement slip. Grrrr... I had to run to my department to get one. Buti na lang they accommodated my request. I ran back to Bellarmine only to be told that they had closed the office na for lunch break (this was at 1140) and I had to come back in the afternoon to continue my reg process.
~sigh~
Things went smoothly in the afternoon -- I finished registration in about 30 minutes.
Some plusses:
- Ma'am Perez showed me my table in the English Dept.
- Bumped into DM Reyes who was pleased to see that I was now part of the faculty (and he offered to help me with my MA thesis. yay!)
- spent time with my J later that day (hahaha -- that rhymed!) and we went to Coffeeheads (new coffee place above World Topps and Bento Box) and played an epic game of Dominoes. (Yes, it was epic)
* * *
It never fails --
Drop me and my J in any bookstore and we will manage to lose ourselves in the books --
We were on our way to Fresh yesterday afternoon (we wanted to try our hand at making sago't gulaman) and decided to drop by Booksale first. Siyempre, we never made it to Fresh because we spent so much time checking out the books. Lots of interesting things in Booksale Katipunan -- there's this coffee table book on posters from around the world -- but it's still pricey at 1k. =P

Hmmm... what do you guys think?
From Portrait Illustration Maker
* * *
Wow, will have to register for classes tomorrow --
Erg -- will need to defend proposal in July. ~sigh~
* * *
Harry Potter opened yesterday and I was in Megamall with my sister and my J -- grabe! the lines were soooo long! (will wait until the madness dies down before I go to watch it)
* * *
Finished reading Tom Holt's Falling Sideways, which is a departure from my usual reading list -- (but I read it anyway because the cover had a frog on it and the chapters are numbered by frogs ^_^)
Some nice soundbytes:
Love, after all, made the world go round; one of the many things it had in common with severe concussion.
...
That's love: possibly the sneakiest trick ever played on any variety of life form by a notoriously conniving Universe.
...
In fact, if we're going to have any kind of lasting relationship, I can see that fairly soon we'll need to have a whole series of long, dreary, horribly embarrassing conversations about it, of the kind that can only end in tears, recriminations, slammed doors and mutually assured sulking. What I'm hoping is that after a while, we'll both get so sick and tired of the subject that we'll leave it alone. Unlikely, though. You can't have a serious relationship where you only talk about nice stuff; that'd be like skipping the main course and having a triple serving of ice cream.

What a day! --
Yesterday felt like it was going to be a great day -- and it was!
I had so much fun and the universe never felt so right -- but, then again, the universe always feels/is right when am spending time with my J --
Games of Fluxx with D and T early in the day -- lollies all around from that Japanese mart (Co.Op along Amorsolo -- EVERYTHING is for PhP75) my J and I discovered on our adventure through Salcedo Village.
Had lunch with my J at Mcdonald's where I accidentally spilled Coke on myself -- (my J was so galing! He didn't panic or fuss at all -- he handed my his hanky and went to the counter to get more tissue. ^_^)
Yes, we continued to eat (I needed time to dry my skirt a little) --
When we got back to the store, G was already there and I brought her to Mocha Blends. It had been a while since we've gotten together for a conversation and so much has happened to her recently (and I wanted to make sure she was okay--)
G is always great to talk to -- she makes it so easy for you to open up to her and the conversation just flows easily. I learn so much from her (and I realize so much about myself after we talk)
(am never confident about giving advice to others, so I usually give them random soundbytes as food for thought -- am glad that some of it actually makes sense ^_^)
It was a pretty slow day at the store so my J and I decide to take a cab and go to my place so I could shower and change out of my sugar-sticky clothes =P
Oh, did I mention I also nearly tipped over the drink I had at Mocha Blends? Hehehe -- it gets better, when we had gotten home that night (after dinner and a movie -- Shrek2!!!), I also nearly tipped over the glass of water on my computer table --
After I had cleaned up, my J and I went to Greenhills Shopping Center to do some errands and to watch Shrek2 (fun movie! Puss is sooooo cute!).
Lots of really nice theory books at Booksale -- will have to consider getting them. (So many books, so little money! ~sigh~)
* * *
First of the Month --
Wow, it's June already -- two weeks before school starts. Will have to register for my thesis class on Friday -- (the plan is to defend my Chapter 1/Proposal this first semester and defend my thesis in December so I could graduate in March)
Am really excited for the start of school -- I wonder how I'll do as a teacher ^_^
Time really flies by fast -- my summers are usually agonizingly slow (fewer customers at the store, etc.) but this summer was a blast! (The new card games my bro brought back from the US really helped -- also the people who hang out at the store = excellent, excellent company! ^_^)
* * *
Activities for June --
It's the start of French Spring in Manila and here is the schedule of activities -- I want to watch the jugglers! ^_^
The French Film Festival starts this Friday at Greenbelt 3.
Fete de la Musique is on June 19 (Saturday) at Eastwood
and Cinemanila starts last week of June (opens with Zatoichi?)
In July, the Metropolitan Theater Group is staging A Midsummer Night's Dream ^_^
